What Happens at a Hearing Aid Fitting?

Before we fit you for hearing aids, we must conduct a hearing test to make sure they would benefit you. Depending on the test results, we will determine how much a hearing aide would need to amplify sound so you can clearly hear them, as well as making sure loud sounds are compressed so they don’t damage your hearing further.

What Is Real Ear Measurement?

During the fitting, we will perform what is known as a Real Ear Measurement. A device is placed in the ear canal and connected to an external microphone. The volume of sound near your eardrums is then taken without the use of hearing aids. This test ensures a proper fit and sound amplification. It’s recommended by both the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Academy of Audiology.

Then, hearing aids will be placed in your ears. Sounds will be played at different volumes to make sure you can both hear everyday sounds clearly and that loud sounds will not further damage your ears.

Once everything is done, we will show you how to properly maintain and care for your new hearing aids, including insertion and removal, along with battery changes.
